Responsible AI Principles For Bengo Media
AI should make us all better people, professionals and organisations. Whether you are a podcaster, radio presenter, audiobook narrator, business owner, coach or marketer – this applies to us all. This will not happen without our focus on the responsible application of AI across all of our business functions.
This is why we would like to publish our “Responsible AI Principles” as well as details on how we use AI internally – to give you an insight into how we work, as well as peace of mind that when you choose to work with us you are working with a socially responsible organisation.
Traditional Software vs AI
Whilst exploring our principles, we differentiated between traditional software and A.I. in the following way:
- Traditional software – Software that follows fixed rules written by a programmer. It does exactly what it’s told, the same way every time.
- AI technology is designed to learn patterns from data or make decisions on its own. It doesn’t just follow fixed instructions. It can adjust, predict, or create new outputs based on what it has learned or been trained on.
For example – audio editors such as Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, Audacity or Reaper, will cut, copy, paste, delete or alter audio in response to human command and to pre-programmed parameters. These are examples of ‘Traditional Software’.
Whereas, Descript can be classed as an AI powered audio and video editor because you can ask it to remove gaps, stumbles and filler words, replace words with AI generated words and pick out clips for social.
Our AI Principles
1. We believe in the responsible design, development, deployment and operation of AI technologies.
2. We believe in a human-centred approach to AI that empowers and augments professionals. AI technologies should be assistive, not autonomous.
3. We believe that humans remain accountable for all decisions and actions, even when assisted by AI. The human must remain in the loop in all AI applications.
4. We believe in the critical role of human knowledge, experience, emotion, and imagination in creativity, and we seek to explore and promote emerging career paths and opportunities for creative professionals.
5. We believe in the power of language, images, and videos to educate, influence, and effect change. We commit to never knowingly using generative AI technology to deceive; to produce content for the sole benefit of financial gain; or to spread falsehoods, misinformation, disinformation, or propaganda.
6. We believe in understanding the limitations and dangers of AI, and considering those factors in all of our decisions and actions.
7. We believe that transparency in data collection and AI usage is essential in order to maintain the trust of our audiences and stakeholders.
8. We believe in personalisation without invasion of privacy, including strict adherence to data privacy laws, mitigation of privacy risks for consumers, and following our moral compass when legal precedent lags behind AI innovation.
9. We believe in intelligent automation without dehumanisation, and the potential of AI to have profound benefits for humanity and society.
10. We believe in minimising the environmental impact we have when using A.I. To that end, we will use A.I. mindfully, efficiently and sparingly when possible. We will also do our best to favour tools and companies that are working towards sustainability.
11. We believe in staying up-to-date and relevant with the progress of AI and how we can best utilise it.
12. We believe in partnering with organisations and people who share our principles.
